One of the most common questions we hear at uNITE Sleep Centers is, "How soon will I get my results?"
The short answer: usually within a few days. But the full answer depends on the type of study, your provider's availability, and how your insurance processes care.
Here's how the timeline breaks down.
Step 1: Completing the Study
Whether you're testing at home or in a uNITE sleep lab, the first step is completing the study itself.
• At-home tests (WatchPAT): 1 to 2 nights of data collection
• In-lab sleep studies: typically a single overnight appointment
Once the study is done and the device is returned (or you've checked out from the lab), we begin our review process.
Step 2: Physician Review
Your test data is reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician. They analyze breathing patterns, oxygen levels, sleep stages, and other key indicators.
This usually takes 24 to 72 hours depending on case complexity and volume. Our physicians don't rush it, but they don't keep you waiting either.
Step 3: Report Sent to Your Provider
As soon as your results are finalized, uNITE sends the full report to your referring provider. You'll need to schedule a follow-up appointment with them to review your results and discuss next steps.
If your provider is part of a health system, they may receive results through their EMR. If not, we fax or securely email it based on their preference.
Things That Can Delay Results
• Missing contact info from your provider
• Device not returned promptly after home test
• Additional data review required for complex cases
• Insurance issues that delay access to follow-up care
What You Can Do to Speed It Up
• Return your home test device as soon as possible
• Make sure your provider sent all required referral info
• Call your provider after 3 to 5 days if you haven't heard anything
